    Kodu Game Design

    Course Description

Kodu is a simple visual programming software which allows learners to build 3D games by forming blocks of code to program the behaviour of robots. This enhances their coding and critical thinking skills. Through the game making journey, learners go through ideation, planning, problem decomposition and testing, which cultivates their overall computational and design thinking skills.

    Lesson Outcome

    • Cultivate 3D spatial awareness by crafting their own game world
    • Understand basic coding concepts such as loops and conditionals
    • Understand state machines
    • Learn and apply the game design process
    • Decompose games into subsystems and combine them together
    • Build their creative confidence with gameplay storytelling

    Deliverables

    • Build a shooting game
    • Build a racing game
    • Build a “Save the princess” game
    • Build a game for their friend

    Remarks

    • Participants should prepare their own Windows notebook computer
